Actually, I am sure that they do, as well all have our own frames of reference. Here&#8217;s what I&#8217;m referring to here in the context of this article. Fit and healthy means having the physical ability to do the things you want to do without getting out of breath. It means being able to open a heavy door, carry bags of groceries, go up and down stairs. (By the way-this is the definition according to Erin-this is not Webster&#8217;s by any stretch of the imagination.) It means being able to play with your kids-really play with them, not lie down on the floor and let them climb on you because you don&#8217;t have the energy or ability to do anything else. It is the ability to live your life and do what you want to do, without self-imposed, changeable physical limitations. Are we straight? OK, here we go!</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>I have to exercise a lot.</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">This is not true. Actually, I should clarify. It depends on what you call &#8220;a lot.&#8221; If 30 minutes daily or at least 6 times a week is &#8221; a lot&#8221;, then maybe yes. However, you do not have to do all structured exercise-meaning going to the gym, lifting weights, or doing cardio. It can be activity-take the dog for a walk, throw the football, play frisbee, whatever. The most important thing is to get off your duff and move. Don&#8217;t sit when you can stand, don&#8217;t stand when you can walk. Get up and walk around the house or office every 20-30 minutes. <span id="more-106"></span>Go window shop. Clean the house-talk about getting immediate gratification and burning a bunch of calories. I wanted a cleaning service until I wore the Bodybugg and cleaned the house. (My fiance was very happy, because I dropped asking about getting a cleaning service after I learned that.) Cleaning house can easily burn 200-300 calories-depending on the size of the house and exactly what you do, of course. Pace while you&#8217;re on the phone. The moral of the story is just move.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>I have to eat 6 times a day.</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Nope. You can if you want to, but you don&#8217;t have to. Research has shown that a isocaloric diet (same amount of calories and composition) shows no &#8220;metabolic advantage&#8221; as far as calorie burn goes, to eating more often. You don&#8217;t have to &#8220;stoke the metabolic fire.&#8221; Some people find that they feel better eating smaller meals more often. Some like a few larger meals. Some like meals and small snacks. Have at it! Any of it! Whatever will help you eat consistently well, and fits into your lifestyle, is what you should do.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>I don&#8217;t have time to exercise.</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Really? Now this is not going to win me any fans, but would you ever say you don&#8217;t have time to brush your teeth? Take a shower? You find time to do the things that are important to you. We all have the same 24 hours in a day, we all have responsibilities and things we have to do. If something is important-you figure it out and make it happen. If someone said they&#8217;d give you a million dollars if you exercised, I bet you&#8217;d find a way to get it done. And again-it doesn&#8217;t have to be organized exercise, although it can be. It early in the morning, before the day gets crazy, before the kids/husband/wife/significant other/dog gets up is the only time-do it! If you can get out at lunchtime-do it! To quote Nike-just do it. Pick a time, and do it. Go. NOW! (just kidding.)</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>I don&#8217;t have time to cook.</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">See number 3. Also, cooking can be much less expensive, as well as much better for you. If you shop smart, buying sale items, stocking up, you can eat healthfully for a reasonable expenditure. You can also cook large amounts of staple items so you have good food ready to go. Time, consistency, and a lot a hard work and good nutrition do.&#8221; Yes, we all have different and unique genetics. However, that does not limit you from becoming the most healthy and fit person you can be. If you have concerns, see your doctor to rule out health issues. Then get moving!</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>I don&#8217;t want to get bulky.</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">This comes from women. I promise you, you will not get bulky. You can-but it would be very intentional, and wouldn&#8217;t happen overnight, and may require exogenous hormones. I hate to say it, but what many people refer to as &#8220;bulky&#8221; is most of the time just fat. If you got leaner, you wouldn&#8217;t think you had too much muscle on your thighs anymore, I can almost guarantee it. When fat covers muscle, that is when the perception of bulky occurs. For the most part. There are very few women who are genetically blessed to put on muscle easily. This is NOT the majority. Chances are very good it&#8217;s not you. I promise you, I life as hard and as heavy as I possibly can, and I am not bulky. Unless I&#8217;m carrying too much fat. Then I could be bulky-but it&#8217;s fat-not muscle, and when I lean down viola-not bulky.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>I don&#8217;t like healthy food.</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Nobody really likes boiled chicken and broccoli. However, that is not what you have to eat. You do not have to suffer to lose weight and/or get fit/be healthy. There&#8217;s a big wide world of food variety to try! You can add flavor to foods with spices, herbs, citrus, marinades, rubs, various preparation methods-the world is your oyster (or clam, or shrimp, or salmon-get it?) Branch out, read food magazines or sites, wander around the farmers market or grocery and try something new. There are a metric ton of wonderful resources-and many food blogs that are specifically gluten free. If you see a recipe you like-take a look and see how it can be modified, if necessary, to meet your nutrition goals. After you do this a few times it becomes very easy and second nature. I get ideas from the Food Network, and then modify as needed for gluten free and healthy. There&#8217;s no reason for you to eat anything you don&#8217;t like. There are many options.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>I can&#8217;t live without ____________ (chocolate ice cream, bacon, deep fried onions, candy etc.)</strong></p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Just make an indulgence just that-an occasional indulgence. Set aside a Saturday dinner to eat what you want or what you&#8217;ve been craving. When you&#8217;ve been eating well all week, you can have that bit of indulgence with no guilt and no repercussions. If you haven&#8217;t been eating well all week, then you may want to reconsider. Figure if you eat well 80-90% of the time, take that remaining percentage and have a little bit of an indulgence. That doesn&#8217;t mean a whole bag of Pamela&#8217;s Chocolate Chip Simplebites (been there.) Have a few, enjoy them, put them away. In the freezer if necessary. Then enjoy guilt free again the following week.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Nope, just go. No one there cares, they are all too busy worrying about themselves. Just start, give yourself permission to begin. I am always inspired to see people who are new to exercise and the gym, or who are coming back from a layoff. It takes a big decision to make that first step. Little bits at a time, but start. <p style="text-align: justify;">Well, I&#8217;m not going to lie, it&#8217;s not easy. But what is harder-making a change, or staying the way you are? Changing behavior first requires a change in perspective. Are you truly satisfied and content with your currrent health and fitness status, your appearance and weight? If so-then stay the same, that&#8217;s awesome. If not-make a change. Choosing to make a change is probably the hardest part. Actually taking the first few steps to change is pretty hard too. But then it&#8217;s like a snowball effect-you start to feel/look better, you have more energy, so you want to do more to improve your life. Inertia is very powerful. You can&#8217;t escape physics-a body in motion tends to stay in motion, a body at rest tends to stay at rest. Get in motion, and give it time to have inertia kick in.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">So for today-take 1 step, make 1 choice to help you achieve your goals. Don&#8217;t give in to the misconceptions and poor information that is so pervasive. Get educated, make your own decisions. Move forward.</p>

I feel it is very important to plan ahead so you are not waiting to the last minute and decide that you don&#8217;t have time to prepare a good meal. It makes it too easy to say &#8220;let&#8217;s just go to McDonalds or order pizza tonight&#8221;. When you plan your menus ahead of time and then go to the grocery store with a list of healthy foods and ingredients it is much easier to develop good eating habits. There are literally hundreds of healthy cook books out there so it is easy to find healthy meals you really enjoy. A little preparation goes a long way.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">I also believe high quality supplementation and daily vitamins are very important to achieve and maintain a healthy life. These products deliver essential amino acids, vitamins, and minerals your body needs to curb junk food cravings (binge eating), allowing your body to shed stored fat. Most of us don&#8217;t get enough of the essential vitamins and minerals in our diets. Many of the vitamins we need are flushed out of the body after a short time and need to be replenished. Some are difficult to get in the foods we eat. These products are easy to take and contain all of these essential ingredients so you never have to worry.<span id="more-104"></span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">My workout philosophy is also very simple. Get in and get out. I use high intensity weight training routines with high repetitions and little or no rest. The only rest I get is the time it takes me to get to the next exercise. I do not go to the gym to socialize or to hang out. My weight training routine usually lasts about 20 minutes followed by 20 minutes on the treadmill. I also like to do high intensity &#8220;boot camp&#8221; style routines to mix things up and keep me motivated.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">I believe that over training is highly detrimental to any fitness program. I could easily work out much longer and stay on the treadmill for 30 or 40 minutes but the key is not to burn out. You must do just enough and work out intensely enough to get results, but if you over train you won&#8217;t come back. Your mind will play tricks on you and you will not have the energy to stick it out.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">I try to keep a long term perspective knowing that Rome wasn&#8217;t built in a day. Your routine must be one you know you can stick with month after month, year after year. You see that at your local gym. Every year in January people make New Years resolutions and quickly fade away. In the spring the gym is packed with people trying to get in shape for the summer. Short consistent training is the only way I have found to achieve sustainable results.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">These are a few of my philosophies about achieving and maintaining optimal health and fitness. If you keep these points in mind it won&#8217;t be long until it becomes second nature to you too. The results you will achieve will last for a longer, happier, healthier lifetime.</p>

One of the major goals of physical education is to prepare students to be active and healthy for a lifetime. <p style="text-align: justify;">Recognizing the importance of physical education at a young age promotes healthy habits throughout life. As modern life becomes more sedentary and specialized, particularly for those who live in cities, the importance of physical education increases. It is important that children understand the importance of Physical Education and good health in their lifestyle. Schools should also recognize the importance of physical education.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">One significant area of concern is the decrease in the physical activity of youth and of physical education in schools. The need for more physical education in schools is increasingly obvious to parents and healthcare professionals as well as professional educators. This is a great first step in elevating the role of physical education in schools.<span id="more-100"></span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Teaching physical education and play are as crucial to a child&#8217;s development as any academic endeavor. Teaching physical education majors study the effects of physical activity on the body and mind, especially in the development of young people.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">If you are a parent to a teen and you are worried about his education, social life, his health or his wellbeing, you are normal!</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The concern regarding your teen puts you, together with 100% of parents of teens around the world. One important issue parents are facing in recent years is the fear of the easy access and availability of drugs in their teens&#8217; daily life.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">The Australian government released statistics regarding drugs and parenting. &#8220;In 2004, 29% of teenagers aged 14 to 19 had used illicit drugs in their lifetime&#8221; (Australian Institute of Health and Wellfare, 2005). Look around you. One out of three teens will use drugs in their short life and your kid is at big risk.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">If you think he is in the 61% that have not used drugs, just because you love him so much, think twice, because &#8220;About 70% of cannabis, cocaine, ecstasy and amphetamine users obtained their drugs from friends and acquaintances&#8221; which makes you worry even more who your teen hangs around with and how easy it will be to influence him to start using.<span id="more-96"></span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">While some parents think that teens use drugs only if they have problems at home or academic challenges at school, teens indicate other reasons:</p>

If you have a happy, confident, accepted, cooperative and healthy teen, he will definitely avoid places where drugs are so available or will refuse unhealthy dangerous offers.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Some parents believe that being strict or keeping teens under tight rules and boundaries will minimise the chance their teen will use drugs. Unfortunately, the teens&#8217; emotional state, which is the main reason for using drugs, does not change just by creating a loving prison at home. Putting more pressure is not the best way to handle stress.</p>

The ability to say no to any addiction requires emotional intelligence that needs to be nourished over the years.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Teens, just like their parents and teachers, do many things to get a desired feeling. Teens who starve for a feeling will do everything to get that feeling. The more they lack this feeling, the more they will give to get it.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Use of drugs is considered a fast and easy way to get that feeling but it is a never-ending cycle because of its addiction component. Teens start using drugs because of an emotional stress. Addiction is an easy high for an emotional stress. Food, alcohol, cigarettes or drugs can ease the stressful situation, but with a high price to pay. Unfortunately, it eases the down feeling only temporary and increases the level of stress&#8230; Teens using drugs &#8220;twice as likely to report high levels of psychological distress.&#8221; Stress leads to addictions, addictions leads to stress and it is a never-ending cycle. Addicted people are addicted to the short relief and will increase the frequency, use more or shift to stronger drugs.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">With many influences on your teens&#8217; life, You , the parent, is still the most important agent and you have lots of power with your time, your caring and sharing, to give him the confidence to stay out of this statistics and help your teen make healthy, reasonable and responsible choices in his life.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Research with parents and children indicates that one of the most effective methods to prevent young people from using drugs is a devoted parent who spends time with their teens, talks with them (not to them) about their friends, their school, their sports and what interests them. The research also reports that teens appreciate parents&#8217; advice and care a lot about what their parents think of them, their actions and their friends and consider this parental feedback a sign of caring.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>10 ways to help your teen say no to drugs!</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Be a role model. In drugs, just like any other aspect of life, what you do will have a major influence of your teen&#8217;s life. Practicing what you preach works here as the number one rule to strengthen your teen confidence in life. &#8220;Do as I say, not as I do&#8221; never works with children and destroys one of the most important ingredient in parenting &#8211; trust.<br />
Focus on the positive. In life, you get what you focus on. Make a habit of concentrating on the good in life and in your teen. Think and express the things you appreciate about him, reasons to be proud of him, things you are happy about regarding him. This focus will send messages of positive expectations rather than negative consequences.<br />
Spend time with your teen. We live in a very hectic life. Still, dedicate time to your teen. Go out with him to a movie, help him with his homework and go out on family outings. Make a date with your teen at least once a week to do something together.<br />
Take interest in your teen&#8217;s life. If you want to be an important part of your teen&#8217;s life, be an important part of his life by learning all there is to learn about your teen. Make sure you are aware of every aspect of his life. What are the names of his best friends, when he has what at school, what he loves to do and who his favourite singer is.<br />
Be honest and share your life with your teen. If you want your teen to share his life with you when you take interest in him, make sure you are honest about what happens in your own life. Tell him about your childhood, your challenges in the past and present, your successes and disappointments, good friends or friends that were not good for you and the choices you have had to make. Everything you want your teen to share with you, you have to share first.<br />
Tell them how much you love them. Even if they are no longer young kids and sometimes they are taller than you are, remember that they are looking for love, everywhere and all the time. Make sure they know how much you love them and say it every chance you get. Say it, write it and sing it every day of their life. A day without telling your kids how much you love them is a day wasted.<br />
Listen to your teen. Make your teen feel appreciated and valued as an important member of the family. Ask your teen what he thinks about family decisions. Ask for suggestions and opinions. If you listen, you are approachable and they will more likely come for help when they need it and will acquire a positive, healthy attitude towards adults.<br />
Touch your teen. The need for physical touch is so essential in your teen&#8217;s life that he or she will do anything to have it. Anything! Even if they are grown ups, touch them, hug them and kiss them. It will lower the risks they take when they look for any physical contact.<br />
Favour emotional success over academic success. Many conflicts between parents and their teens are about school. Some parents think that knowledge and academic achievements play a major role in their kids&#8217; life, where in fact their emotional state is far more important. Whenever you have to choose between academic and emotional strength, remember, that their confidence and emotional intelligence will determine if they are strong enough to say no to things that are unhealthy for them.<br />
Always keep communication channels open! Talk to your teens, tell them about your day and ask them about theirs. Tell them about your challenges and feelings and ask about theirs. Give and you shall receive. Write your teen notes, letters or emails. Keep the communication open even if you are not happy. Make sure you are calm and do not overreact. Always, always leave the door open for them to come back to you if they have made a mistake.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">It takes a while before a small need for an emotional high becomes an addiction. Long before your teen enters the world statistics regarding teens and drugs, you can, with a consistent investment of your time and awareness, minimise your fear and maximise your teen&#8217;s chace to live a happy, responsible and healthy life.</p>

<p>That said, it can be a little difficult to ensure that your family is always healthy and happy. Modern life can be hectic and confusing, and it can be hard sometimes to figure out what&#8217;s best for your loved ones. <p>As for your children, truly healthy and happy ones are those who aren&#8217;t smothered by their parents. They&#8217;re the ones who are allowed to explore the world around them, and to figure things out for themselves from time to time. You can teach your children everything you know, but some part of their own knowledge has to come from their own solo experiences.</p>
